An Electric Motorized Pallet Jack or Pallet Truck
A Manuel Pallet Jack or Pallet Truck
What is a Pallet jack?
A pallet jack is a machine that is used to assist a person in lifting extremely loads with minimum effort while also protecting their body from physical injury from over exertion. These all have two forks which fit a standardized size pallet [1] or under other large objects.
What Types of Pallet jacks are there?
There are two types of pallet jacks: manual and motorized.
Manual Pallet jacks:Manual pallet jacks use only human energy to lift the load and move it. These lift the load by amplifying the force put on the handle of the pallet jack by working just like any other type of hand powered jack. As the user pumps up and down on the handle the wheels are lowered. This lifts the load off of the ground. Once the load is lifted it is sheer, brute force that is used to move the load.
Motorized Pallet jacks:Motorized pallet jacks work in much the same way as a manual pallet jack except the human force part is taken out of the equation and replaced with mechanical power. These are usually powered by either electricity or some form of gasoline or diesel. On these pallet jacks the person operating the machine typically rides on the jack. Most pallet jacks on which the operator ride are equipped with a switch which only allows the machine to work when the operator is on the pallet jack. This is a safety precaution that is much like that used in ride on lawn tractors. It works so that when the operator either steps off the jack or falls off for any reason the machine will stop. The goal of which is to prevent both injury and damage to the machine.
Where Are Pallet jacks Used?
Pallet jacks can be used anywhere depending on the type of pallet jack. However, all manual pallet jacks are meant for use on hard surfaces such as concrete, wood, asphalt, etc.
Off-Road Pallet jacksThese are a variety of motorized pallet jacks that have off road tires and have a much wider base. They are specifically designed for these conditions and should be used only as deemed by the manufacturer. Under no circumstances should a pallet jack not equipped with off road tires be used in an off road circumstance. This is both for the safety of the operator and load on the jack and because a pallet jack not properly equip for that type of terrain will become bogged down and stuck.
How To Operate A Pallet jack
Manual Pallet jacks:To operate a manual pallet jack carefully line up the forks with the pallet or object making sure that the pallet jack is in the lowest position. This is accomplished by squeezing the handle. After this is done insert the fork into the holes in the pallet until the pallet jack is all the way in. After this is accomplished move the handle to the position shown by the manufacturer's directions to lift the jack. Once in this position pump the handle until the load is fully lifted. Then move the handle to the neutral position. Under no circumstances move the load without the handle in this position. Also if you cannot see around the load always move it in reverse unless absolutely necessary. When the load is in the desired position squeeze the handle to lower the load. Always keep feet clear when lowering the load! [2]
Motorized Pallet jacks:All motorized Pallet Jacks are different in operation. Persons using these motorized pallet jacks should fully understand how the pallet jack operates. One should be properly trained in the operation of the specific pallet.[3]
